The hotel is just North of Charlevoix, about 4 miles from Castle Farms. This block of rooms will expire on 3/28/10. Not sure why they make the expiration date so soon...

Date of Departure: 09/26/10

You will have a 180 day (3/28/10) prior to day of arrival cancellation
policy with the hotel to reserve rooms within the group block and/or to
cancel any rooms not needed or they will go back into inventory. The
guest, once they reserve, will have a 7 days prior to day of arrival
cancellation policy.

Engagement Pictures

We've completed getting our engagement photos taken, and will be sending out our save-a-date cards later this week. My stepfather Larry and Mom's neighbor Niccole took our photos while we were in Cass City for Thanksgiving. Click on the photo below to see the album of our favorite engagement photos.

What's new!

Hey everyone, sorry it has been so long since our last post but as most of you know we have been a little busy with our recent move. Brent started his job yesterday at Whirlpool and so far he is liking it. Also we are all moved in and unpacked. We both love St Joseph!
As for the wedding got pushed to the back burner for a little while but now that we are all settled its back to planning. We went to Men's Warehouse and made a few decisions on the guys tuxes. They will all be wearing chocolate brown tuxes. Brent will have a white vest and tie, the groomsmen and ushers will be wearing fuchsia vests and ties and the fathers will be wearing Tiffany blue. But keep in mind that we have almost 11 months before the wedding so things may change before then!

Practice Cake

On Wednesday, Oct 7th (my birthday!), we completed a four tier wedding cake that we baked for a senior citizens ball. The cake was a simple white cake/ white frosting combination, and was our first practice attempt at making our own wedding cake. The cake did not turn out perfect, especially the bottom tier, but all of the participants thoroughly enjoyed the cake. We learned a lot of lessons on this cake and surely the next cake will be much better. We figure this cake took us about 20 man-hours of work, and fed about 200 people. The cake took 12 boxes of cake mix, and over 30 cups of homemade frosting, as well as 15 pounds of marshmallow fondant.

Date Set!

Last Saturday, Oct 3, Brent and I took the official Castle Farms bridal tour. We have reserved a room and date for Sept 25, 2010. We are planning to hold the ceremony outside in the Knights courtyard at 3pm followed by a cocktail hour from 3:30 to 5pm. The reception will be in the Knight's Castle following the cocktail hour and will run from 5-11pm. The Knight's Courtyard is equipped with an excellent stereo system, and we had the wedding planner crank up the volume so we could hear what we would be dealing with! Below I have linked pictures from the tour, so that we can start to come up with decorating ideas.

Tara and Brent,

Hi! I have you scheduled for a 10:00am bridal tour on Saturday October 3rd, 2009. I think accidentally told you 10:30am. If you would prefer the 10:30 time let me know and I will move it to then. Directions may be found on our website here. Please enter at the main gate and follow the driveway around to the parking lot. Go to the welcome center at the main entrance and let them know you are there for a bridal tour. A bridal facilitator will meet you there to show you the Castle.

I have put a hold on the Knight’s Castle for Saturday September 25th, 2010 for you. Technically we can only hold the room for three days, so I will make a note for you to be contacted if anyone else is interested before you come for your tour.

In the meantime, if you have any questions just let me know. If something comes up the day of your tour, please leave a voice message at 231-237-0884 ext. 221, which is our general inbox.

We look forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,

Emily Selph

Proposal Story

We left Saturday September 19, 2009 for Mackinac Island to celebrate Brent's birthday. On the ferry ride over Brent gave me a present. It was a letter, maps of the island, a compass, the hotel reservations and a box with a lock. The letter explained that when we got to our hotel I had to go to the front porch-- We stayed at the Inn on Mackinac! Once there he gave me envelope 2 which had a letter with two coordinates I had to use to find out where we would start our trip. Soon we were on our way to Lookout point. Once we got up there he made me tie a bowline knot. After many tries I finally got it and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He gave me a speech about how he wasn’t a traditional kind of guy and since he was in charge of picking the ring he got one that was yellow gold with red, green, and blue stone (one he know I wouldn’t like) I was so surprised I didn’t realize I hadn’t said yes until he asked what my answer was. That is when I got letter number 3. This explained that I had to answer the 12 questions all about Mackinaw Island by biking all over the island. With every correct answer my ring was upgraded to one he knew I would like better. I received a total of 18 rings. Once I had all the questions answered I could add up all the numbers I had and get the code to the lock box. That is where the ring was! I had it in my back pack all day!
